01 — Why Interlock

What changes when an Interlock metal roof goes on your Florida home.

Wind

Designed for Florida's wind map, and approved on the record

Under the FBC 8th Edition and ASCE 7-22, design wind speeds run from roughly 130–140 mph across the Panhandle, Jacksonville and Orlando to 150–160 around Tampa Bay and about 170 in the far southwest. Florida Product Approval FL7263-R7 covers this system's Shingle/Slate, Diamond, Shake and Hidden-Fastener Tile profiles, with design pressures from −30.0 to −187.5 psf depending on profile and fastening. The panels lock to each other on all four sides with no fastener in the weather, and wind resistance is warranted to 120 mph when installed to manufacturer specification.

Salt

Both coasts put salt in the air. Aluminum has no iron to rust

Every steel panel is cut somewhere, and every cut exposes bare metal the factory coating never reached — which is why steel and Galvalume warranties commonly exclude roughly the first 1,500 feet of shoreline. Aluminum contains no iron and cannot rust, at the cut edge or anywhere else. Near salt, the assigned installer specifies stainless or aluminum fasteners to match.

Recycled
95%

Recycled aluminum

Roughly 95% recycled content, and the last tear-off your house is likely to need.

Hail

The I-4 corridor is Florida's hail hotspot

Tampa to Orlando, May and June afternoons, is where Florida's hail falls hardest — the state record stone measured 4.5 inches. This roof carries a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, the highest class in the standard, tested by Delta Building Products, and the Guardian warranty covers hail to 1.5-inch stones.

Heat

Reflective, CRRC-rated colors through a long cooling season

Florida's energy code puts no cool-roof mandate on steep-slope homes — so a reflective aluminum roof in a CRRC-rated color is a benefit you choose, not a box to tick. Aluminum sheds solar heat quickly after the afternoon storm passes, and the Alunar® 70% PVDF finish is certified to AAMA 2605 with a 30-year finish warranty.

Fire

Class A fire rating available — as a complete assembly

Worth being precise about, because plenty of roofing pages are not: under ASTM E108 the classification belongs to an assembly, not to a panel. Class A is available here as an assembly over GAF VersaShield underlayment, evaluated in ICC-ES ESR-2053. Aluminum itself does not ignite.

02 — The Head-to-Head

Aluminum against asphalt, tile and steel in Florida: the part nobody puts in the pitch.

No prices here, on purpose. A Florida roof price turns on pitch, deck condition, what the 25% rule requires once work begins, and which profile and fastening the approval calls for on your house — a national average would tell you nothing true. This is what each material actually asks of you over the life of the house.

One thing this table does not claim: a metal roof does not automatically change what you pay for insurance. Wind-mitigation credits are determined solely by your insurer — ask your carrier what the OIR-B1-1802 inspection documents on your house. And Miami-Dade and Broward counties are not served (the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone).

03 — Roof Systems

Profiles under the Florida approval: slate, cedar shingle & shakeThe look belongs to your home.
The performance belongs to the metal.

Slate

Slate

The formal character of quarried slate, at a fraction of the weight, in aluminum that cannot rust.

Cedar Shingle

Cedar Shingle

Warm, dimensional cedar character with nothing for Florida sun and rain to split, rot or re-stain.

Shake

Shake

Deep shadow lines and hand-split texture, held down by the four-way interlock.

Designer colors across the profiles, all in the CRRC-rated Alunar® coating system. FL7263-R7 also covers a Hidden-Fastener Tile profile for neighborhoods where the tile look is the HOA's rule. Two honest limits: standing seam is not included in the Florida product approval, and every profile needs a minimum 3/12 roof slope.

04 — Where the program works

Tampa Bay, Central Florida, the Gulf Coast, the Treasure Coast and the Panhandle.

Florida outside the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone. Miami-Dade and Broward counties are not served (the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone) — the approval is non-HVHZ, and saying so plainly beats finding out at permit time. Monroe County is reviewed case by case. Everywhere else, call the regional line and a certified Interlock installer is assigned to your project.

05 — Straight answers

The six questions Florida homeowners ask first.

Who actually installs the roof?

Not us. Interlock Roofing of America manufactures and supplies the roof and certifies independent, Florida-licensed roofing contractors on the system. A certified Interlock installer is assigned to your project, and the installer pulls the permit under their own licence. Certified means certified by the manufacturer — it is not a state certification.

Is this roof approved for Florida wind?

Florida Product Approval FL7263-R7 under the FBC 8th Edition covers the Shingle/Slate, Diamond, Shake and Hidden-Fastener Tile profiles, tested to UL 1897, UL 580 and TAS 125, with design pressures from −30.0 to −187.5 psf depending on profile and fastening. Warranted wind resistance is 120 mph when installed to manufacturer specification.

What about Miami-Dade and Broward counties?

No. Miami-Dade and Broward counties are not served (the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone) — FL7263-R7 is a non-HVHZ approval and there is no Miami-Dade NOA. Monroe County sits at roughly 170–180 mph design wind in Exposure D and is reviewed case by case.

My roof is only partly worn — can just that section be replaced?

Florida's 25% rule (FBC Existing Building 706.1.1) says that when more than a quarter of a roof area or section is repaired, replaced or recovered within 12 months, the whole roof or section must be brought to current code. SB 4-D amended s. 553.844 so that a roof built or permitted under the 2007 code or later may repair only the damaged portion. Which case yours falls into is a question for the assigned installer and your building department.

What does this mean for my insurance?

Under s. 627.7011(5), an insurer may not refuse or non-renew a policy solely because of roof age while the roof is under 15 years old; at 15 years and beyond, you may provide an inspection showing at least five years of remaining life. Wind-mitigation credits are determined solely by your insurer — ask your carrier what the OIR-B1-1802 inspection documents on your house.

Will my HOA allow a metal roof?

Florida HOAs (Chapter 720, F.S.) may regulate roof material, color and profile, but a denial must be in writing and cite the governing provision, and an application is deemed approved after 30 days without a response (s. 720.3035). Recent law (SB 4-D, HB 293) also limits how far an association can go in blocking hurricane-protection improvements. The profiles above exist so the roof can look like slate, shingle or shake rather than a barn.

06 — How It Works

From the manufacturer to your roof: three steps, no surprises.

1

Tell us about your roof

A minute online or one phone call to the regional line. The age of the roof, the current covering, and what is prompting the change.

2

A certified installer is assigned

An independent, Florida-licensed roofing contractor, certified by the manufacturer on this system, is assigned to your project. The installer visits, measures, and looks at the deck — because the 25% rule and the fastening schedule both depend on what is actually up there.

3

The installer's proposal, in writing

A written proposal under the installer's own licence, and the permit pulled under that licence too. The material and the Guardian Lifetime Limited Material Warranty come from the manufacturer; the workmanship agreement is between you and the installer.

The other path is the one Florida carriers are already pricing in: another asphalt roof aging through fifteen summers toward the inspection letter, and another tear-off after that. One aluminum roof, bought from the manufacturer's program and installed by a certified contractor, ends the cycle. How the program works →

Let's plan your last roof.

Tell us about your roof, and the certified Interlock installer for your area takes it from there — a visit, a written proposal, and no pressure from anyone.
